Hypodermic Syringe Theory

"The hypodermic syringe theory is a theory of media effect on audience. The term is used to describe interaction between the media and public belief, and offering the concept of people becoming affected by the information "injected" in to them through their information medium. The model tends to see contemporary society."

Social Networking Sites - Influencing Films

As part of my research i have looked in to how social networking sites may become useful advertising tools for films and production companies. Sites such as Facebook have advertisement banners down the side of the page that usually contain moving images to catch the audiences attention. These advertisements are usually suited to the type of audience using the computer. Due to the eye catching movement, this attracts a large audience and gives the audience a introduction to the advertisement so a sense of recognition can be created when the audience returns to the site. Advertising on social networking sites is very expensive due to the competition from different advertising companies. This means that it is highly unlikely that we shall use the method of social networking sites to advertise our film. However, social networking sites also use another method to create advertising links. Most film websites have a link to websites such as Facebook, which the audience can join and post comments and feedback, giving them the chance to interact with the film. I have therefore ensured that i have created a link to Facebook to help expand the advertisement of the film.

Location

This is the setting we are using to film the bathroom shots. The first photo shows a different lighting to the second so we know how they will look when we are filming. The Bathroom looks feminine making it realistic to be the bathroom for the main character. As most of the teaser trailer will be sot in the bathroom is it important that we have picked the right setting.

This location again links to our main protagonist, as the room is realistic and girly. This will be Chloes room. The pink shown in the shots relates to the genre of romance as well as other props that are shown in the shot.

Letter of Consent

External Factors Affecting Our Teaser Trailer

External factors, are things that affect our filming for the teaser trailer which are out of our control. There are a few external factors that we need to consider for our production.
  • The weather could be a problem for us as some of our shots are outside Eg the graveyard scene. We don't want it to be raining when we shoot the outside scene because it may completely change the mise en scene of the shot, and lead the viewer to believe that we are creating pathetic fallacy, when we are not. Also the rain may lead to technical issues as we don't want to ruin our camera for filming, it may also give a poor quality to the image we shoot.
  • We also need to gain permission for the use of the main soundtrack on our teaser trailer. This means that we need to contact the institution that owns the song. This may be difficult, as it is hard to find contact details for the right institution. Once we have asked for permission we may not receive a reply as they might be to busy or may not receive the email.
  • We shall also need to gain permission for the actors and locations that are used in our teaser trailer. We will need to create a consent form to be filled out by actors and owners of the land that we film on. If we don't receive permission we shall not be able to use that person or location in our filming. Alternatively, if the owner of the land or actor pulls of of filming, then we shall have to destroy all footage of the location or actor that we have shot. This makes our filming law-abiding.
  • Due to our low budget, we shall have very limited technology to work with. We have to work hard to produce a trailer that looks like its been made with a higher budget and hope that the limited resources we have doesn't fail us.

Soundtrack

When i analysed my Teaser trailer, i recognised that most of the trailers had a soundtrack to them. The track was played over all the clips as a soundbridge. We came up with seven songs that we thought would be good to use as a soundtrack throughout the film, but we needed a main song to play over the teaser trailer. We decided to asked our target audience which one of the seven we had selected, they thought would relate best to our trailer and use as the main song.
These are the results from asking our target audience. As you can see Ellie Golding - Sweet Disposition is the song with the most results and therefore we shall be using it as our soundtrack.

Production logo

We decided that our logo would look much better produced on the computer, as it looks more professional. The original logo we had drawn was much harder to create on the computer and therefore we had to compromise with our design. We still feel that the new logo works as well as the original and represents our institution strongly. The red roses show the connotation of love and create a link to out institution name of "Rose and Thorn". As you can see, the roses also make the shape of a heart, this again link to the genre that our institution will be producing. The roses also face downwards showing that the love represented in our films may hold an unhappier side towards it. We have also decided to use and older font. The font is curly, like handwriting which links to stereotypical handwriting in love letters, as well as looking old to give the effect that our institution is well trusted as it has been around for a while.
